The Overwatch Worldcup 2018 will be the third official held tournament by Blizzard Entertainment. As it stands, there will be 24 teams fighting for the first spot against the defending champion South Korea.
The first stage will be played in group phases around the world. The best two teams out of the groups will be in the top 8, which will get the opportunity to play in eliminations on the big stage at BlizzCon 2018!
To be part of one of the biggest esports events this year, the nation’s average skill rating of the top 100 players have been valuated. Switzerland could secure the spot in the last moment. This year, Switzerland’s group phase will be held in the USA, in Los Angeles. The representing team has some of SILENTGAMING’s players who will have the honor to compete.
We proudly introduce you the selected players for the second Swiss team playing in the Overwatch Worldcup:

To see how our SILENT.OW players stand, we reached out to them to know what’s on their mind.
You've been playing Overwatch since they started with their beta version. Did you ever thought you would represent Switzerland two years later at the world cup?
No I didn't. When i started playing back in 2016 I thought it's just going to be another fun game. I didn't think it would get that "serious".
WHO ARE YOU THE MOST EXCITED TO PLAY AGAINST?
Against USA, because I think they will be the strongest opponent and I’m excited to see how we’ll do against them.
Same as MIMI7, you’ve been playing since the open beta.
Did you visioned yourself representing Switzerland?
No, i started playing because it was fun and something new. I never saw myself as a pro or anything like that.
Are you ready to show your Lucio to the world?
What are you most excited for?
I'm ready and hyped to play Lucio on the biggest stage, since I have over 500 hours playtime on him. I hope to get some nice boops on players like xqc. 😀
Do you expect different metas clashing togheter in this world cup?
Yes, in the recent scrims we saw a great variety of team compositions being played. From standard GOATS (3 Tanks + 3 Supports) comp to double sniper (Widowmaker + Hanzo). Ana and Sombra seem to get more playtime than in previous metas and luckily Mercy isn't a must pick anymore, wich leaves room for other heroes to shine.
You are a known agressive player, will we see a different "you" or can we stay excited for big plays?
I definitely have to play more passive in the world cup than against Swiss teams, compared to the Swiss scene where I try to force a 1vs1 situation pretty much all the time. I have to be really careful to not overextend in the world cup, because good players can easily punish an over-agressiv playstyle, especially on heroes like Widowmaker or Tracer.
I think we can't skip this question. Is Ana ready for the world cup?
She is definitely in a better spot compared to last patch and also me being an absolute fan of her, you'll likely see her in the official matches. 😉
You had a bootcamp not long ago, are you confident to take the practice on stage?
This kind of a big stage will be new to all of us and playing in front of such a large crowd will be weird at first, but I am confident that we can play to our strengths and give our best.
Excited? We are! Save the dates and cheer with all your energy for our Swiss Team!
SILENTGAMING wish the whole Overwatch Swiss Team good fights and an awesome experience! May they end the group phase with great results and show what Switzerland is capable of to achieve!
