Smile & Wave(s) Recap

Events

13/
03/19
One of the biggest Swiss offline tournaments in Smash Ultimate took place last weekend. Together with our Smash player Wave(s) we've organized an awesome event in partnership with Nintendo and many more.

From Saturday, 09.03.2019 until Sunday, 10.03.2019 Smash players from all over Switzerland and a few more from Austria, Germany and France gathered in the sports hall of Aarwangen.

The tournament started with a 2vs2 format on Saturday, around 11:00h in the morning and in the afternoon the 1vs1 tournament followed. Approximately 80 participants registered on Saturday.
After the official tournament the players stayed to play a fun format, where players from Switzerland battled against players from France.

On Sunday the tournament continued with the best of 32 players until the winner has been eventually found.

The whole tournament has been streamed on our Twitch channel.

For people from far away, there was a sleeping hall and of course we didn't let our attendees starve. Drinks and food have been sold for a reasonable price at the SILENT bar, which was organized by the SILENTGAMING management.

Overall the whole event was a success with positive feedback from all corners. This was also thanks to the awesome Smash community, which is one of the friendliest esports scenes we know of. We're happy to be able to support this community.

THANK YOU

A huge THANK YOU goes to our partners!

The event wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of Nintendo. The hardware was provided by Nintendo, with support of Samsung, who provided the monitors.

The prizes were also organized and provided by Nintendo, but also Pathé, World of Games and Fantasy Basel contributed.

Quickline, SILENTGAMING's main sponsor, support us with free Internet. So players from abroad could use the internet too, without going broke!

Last but not least, ButterLAN helped out and lent out material for our kitchen.

SILENTGAMING also wants to thank Wave(s) for organizing a superb tournament and soodie for the event lead and organizing the location. Thanks to royal who organized the beverages.

The whole stream was cared for by Bergbuur. Thank you for taking such good care for our SILENTGAMING Twitch channel!

There were also a lot of SILENTGAMING members who came to help: rMo, xPsychoBunny, dothem, scheedaariii, Breny, Exbreakr and Mare, who isn't a SILENTGAMING member, but also mentionable!

THANK YOU GUYS!

˝I'm very happy everything worked out as planned for an awesome Super Smash Brothers Ultimate weekend in Aarwangen.˝

"The first Swiss SSBU major has come to an end. With overwhelmingly positive feedback, many hype matches and lots of surprising upsets, the tournament seems to have been an overall success.

Although both doubles and singles were delayed throughout the weekend, only few people were really bothered by it, since there were so many friendly setups to pass the time with. The Swiss-German vs Romandy crew battle couldn’t take place, so that will have to be postponed to a different event. Switzerland won the crew battle vs France though! Plus, we ended up with a full Swiss top 8, even though many foreign players were projected to get farther. Shout-outs to Destany for winning 1v1, to SevereCalamari and Zudenka for completing the podium, to Ryuji & Jesuischoq for winning 2v2, to Phonky & SaintThief for their many upsets to get 3rd and congrats to my usual doubles partner Deepfreeze for getting 4th in 1v1 and 2nd in 2v2, along with SILENT's very own Kepler!

Smile & Wave(s) couldn’t have taken place if it wasn’t for all the helpers though. So a big hug and thank you to everyone that helped to set up and clean up the venue on both days. Huge shout-out to bergbuur for taking care of the stream during the entire event. Thanks to Nintendo and all our other sponsors for their support. Finally, the biggest thanks goes to soodie and the rest of the SILENTGAMING team for doing (what was in my opinion) most of the hard work before, during and after the event. See you all soon, maybe at the next edition?"

Congratulations to all winners and we hope to see all attendees at the next edition again! The whole photo album can be found HERE!
